I was diagnosed in 1986 as Type 2 but it was necessary for me to be on a regimen of multiple insulin shots from the first day of diagnosis. I have been on 5-6 shots per day for 18 years, all in the abdominal areas of my body. In the fall 2003, inspired by Rachel Harris's story, I inquired about the cell transplant program at The Uiv. of Miami, since I know her father, uncle and brother. I was informed that I had to be a Type 1 to qualify and they suggested it take the Basal C-Peptide test. The results of this test conducted at 2 different locations, showed I was established to be a Tpye 1. Unfortuneatly, I was denied acceptance to the program because I was 30 days over my 65th birthday. Since then I have been trained in external insulin pump therapy and was on the insulin pump for one month. This was the worst month of my life, when I found that I was not receiving basal insulin absorption and other areas of my body proved to

Comments:Hi,I cannot believe I found your site! I am diabetic and so is my twin sister, Hollie. Anyway, we are 14 adn we've had diabetes for 3 years and HATE it. People who are not diabetic don't get it. Even our doctors don't get it even though they studied diabetes and know what to do with our insulin and all. Having a low is so awful. Highs are scary too becuz everytime I see it high I know an organ is getting damaged. People say a cure is coming but not fast enuf until I found your site. I showed my mom and she cried. I am grateful for you all becuz you show that progress is happening that the researchers are not just doing nothing and making false claims. I have hope and so does my mom and dad and sister. Thank you and thank your doctors for me. I hope to be smart enuf one day to cure diabetes and save kids eyes, hearts, and kidneys and even their feet. Thank you! Ceilia

Comments:Like Rachel Harris, I am a Type 1 diabetic, but adult onset.

Comments:I am currently on the waiting list in North Carolina for an islet cell transplant, but have recently spoke to Charlotte at DRI and am very much interested in the new trials, and plan to pursue the bone marrow/islet cell transplant. I am 50 years old, and have had diabetes for 30 years. I have severe low blood sugars almost on a daily basis. Have been on an insulin pump for four years, but it's a fight to maintain normal blood sugars. Your sight is very encouraging.
